Eliminate Dengue
This international research group is dedicated to eradicating dengue by introducing mosquitoes infected with Wolbachia, a bacteria that lives inside the mosquito and inhibits the spread of dengue, into the wild. They have had success in Australia and are looking to expand their efforts into Vietnam and Thailand.
OxiTec
This company makes a profit from engineering and selling genetically manipulated (GM) insects to reduce pest and disease invasions. When released, the GM insects lower wild insect populations through mating. The offspring of these insects die when not fed a special supplement available only in a lab.
